Contributions

Funding to Prostate Cancer Foundation BC go directly towards building more awareness for the disease, as well as research and equipment and support groups. In 2010, we have significantly increased our support of research efforts in B.C. with awards and scholarships to the BC Cancer Agency, UBC, Prostate Centre and many others. Recipients were used to fund project research by Ph.D students in Prostate Cancer Research, Nutrition, and Psychology, as well as to purchase equipment to labs and hospitals, and for support group conferences. Each of these research grants will serve to lever significant additional grants to accomplish further advances to the treatment and cure of Prostate Cancer.

Budgets from the Foundation's funds are also available to all B.C. Prostate Cancer Support Groups. B.C. has more Prostate Cancer Support Groups than any other province, with nearly 25 active each month.

In terms of building public awareness, Prostate Cancer Foundation BC continues to supply Reef Knot Information Kits to all doctors in B.C. who in turn hand them out to newly diagnosed Prostate Cancer patients and their families. These kits are comprised of the latest pamphlets and information regarding the disease and are 100% paid for by the Foundation.
